We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and experienced Literacy Lead to join our team at a well-established Special School in Huddersfield. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with students who have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) and complex needs, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

As the Literacy Lead, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing literacy programs that cater to the individual needs of our students, ensuring they receive the support required to enhance their reading, writing, and communication skills in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the literacy provision across the school, ensuring it is tailored to the needs of students with SEMH and additional learning needs.
  • Develop and deliver individualized and group literacy interventions based on students' EHCPs.
  • Work closely with class teachers and support staff to integrate literacy across the curriculum and ensure a cohesive approach to students' learning.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to teaching staff on best practices for supporting literacy development in students with SEMH needs.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress, making data-driven adjustments to interventions as necessary.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that encourages students to engage with and enjoy literacy.
  • Establish strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies to support students' literacy development.
