Are you passionate about helping children develop their reading skills and discover a love of books?
PK Education is currently recruiting for a Reading Champion to support pupils at a primary school in Newcastle. Starting after October half term, this is an opportunity to help children become confident, enthusiastic readers.
The role:
- Support pupils with reading through individual and small-group sessions.
- Help develop fluency, comprehension and confidence.
- Support phonics and early reading where required.
- Encourage reading for pleasure and engage reluctant readers.
- Work alongside teaching staff to identify pupils' needs and share progress.
- Create a positive, inclusive environment where children feel supported.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with primary-aged children, ideally supporting reading or literacy.
- Has a good understanding of phonics and strategies to support developing readers.
- Is patient, encouraging and able to build positive relationships with pupils.
- Has strong communication skills and works well within a school team.
- Holds an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to apply for a new one.
