London (Hybrid – 4 days onsite, 1 remote). I’m currently working with a global technology organisation looking to bring on an experienced Senior Back End Engineer (Kotlin/Java/GCP) to join a well-established Mobile App Engineering function.
You’ll be joining a cross-functional, product-aligned feature team working on the back end of a high-traffic mobile application with millions of MAU. This is a long-term contract role offering stability, technical ownership, and the opportunity to work on complex, large-scale systems.
The RoleAs a Senior Back End Engineer (Kotlin/Java/GCP), you’ll play a technical leadership role within the team, helping translate business needs into scalable, well-architected platform solutions. You’ll work closely with mobile, frontend, and backend teams to ensure the platform enables high-quality feature delivery across the app.

Required Experience- Strong experience within the Java ecosystem ideally Kotlin
- Deep knowledge of Spring / Spring Boot
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs
- Hands-on experience with GCP
- Familiarity with event-driven systems and distributed architectures
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Grafana, Splunk)
- Comfortable working with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
- Strong knowledge of Git and collaborative development workflows
- Strong focus on clean, maintainable, well-tested code
- Comfortable working with pair programming and mobbing
- Experience contributing to robust testing strategies across the development lifecycle
- Pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset
- Has operated successfully in Senior Engineer or Technical Lead roles
- Values team success and knowledge sharing
- Comfortable working in ambiguous problem spaces
