Overview
We are looking for an experienced UK-based SRE Consultant / Coach to help transform an established operations team for a large enterprise client (Retail). The client formed an SRE function around four years ago, but the model has not fully delivered on its original vision. The organisation remains heavily aligned to ITSM / ITIL, and the objective is to evolve toward a modern application support and SRE-led culture.
This role will play a key part in defining the strategy, shaping the roadmap, and executing the transition to a true SRE operating model.
The Opportunity
You will work closely with an L&G Retail Product Team Lead, embedding yourself within the team to:
- Understand the current (“as-is”) operating model
- Design the future (“to-be”) SRE model
- Coach and mentor team members to adopt SRE principles and ways of working
- Help shape and onboard new talent (1 onshore, 1 offshore)
- Drive cultural change from traditional IT operations to SRE ownership
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys influencing, coaching, and leading by example.
Key Objectives
- Introduce and embed a true SRE culture
- Shift mindset from ITSM/ITIL to application-centric support
- Define strategy, roadmap, and practical execution steps
- Advocate for reliability, ownership, automation, and continuous improvement
- Be part of the team and own outcomes, not just advise from the sidelines
Technical Environment
- Multiple platforms and applications
- AWS and Azure cloud environments
- Mix of legacy and modern systems
- Mainframe experience is beneficial
- Cloud-native and modern applications
- DevOps skills and mindset are highly desirable
About You
- Proven experience as a Senior SRE or SRE Coach/Consultant
- Strong background in transforming ops teams and operating models
- Comfortable working with both modern cloud platforms and legacy systems
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and coaching skills
- Passionate about culture change and building sustainable SRE practices
- Collaborative, pragmatic, and outcome-focused
