The Role
Reporting directly to the Head of IT, step into a role of genuine influence, shaping and protecting the physical and virtual foundations that power our entire studio. Join us and bring your technical expertise and architectural vision to design secure, scalable server environments and virtualisation platforms capable of supporting a high-throughput game development pipeline. Your focus will be balanced approximately 70% on servers, storage, and virtualisation, with the remaining 30% covering networking and connectivity, ensuring that the critical systems used daily by our developers, artists, and Operations teams remain resilient, performant, and reliable.
- Oversee our core infrastructure across VMware, Proxmox, Windows, and Linux server environments.
- Maintain and improve our network stack, including switching, routing, VLANs, VPNs, Wi-Fi, and firewalls.
- Lead complex technical projects, upgrades, and migrations from initial concept through to successful delivery, ensuring that security, high availability, and disaster recovery are engineered into our systems from the ground up.
- Through proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning, identify and resolve bottlenecks, technical risks, and potential points of failure long before they affect production.
- Advocate for automation and continuous improvement, writing scripts in PowerShell, Bash, or Python to eliminate manual overhead and streamline operational processes.
- Establish studio-wide infrastructure standards, manage key vendor relationships, and create clear, detailed technical documentation and architecture diagrams.
- Serve as a mentor and trusted guide for the wider IT team, sharing knowledge, fostering growth, and ensuring Pixel Toys’ systems are ready to meet the evolving needs of the studio.
About you
You will join us as an experienced infrastructure specialist with deep hands‑on experience managing enterprise virtualisation platforms such as VMware or Proxmox, alongside strong administration expertise across both Windows Server and Linux environments. You will bring a thorough understanding of core directory and network services, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP; backed by proven experience managing enterprise storage platforms, backup systems, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Your technical knowledge also extends into networking, where you have practical experience configuring, securing, and maintaining enterprise switches, routers, VLANs, VPNs, wireless infrastructure, and firewalls.
- With a track record of successfully planning and delivering complex infrastructure upgrades and migrations, you are proficient in scripting with PowerShell, Bash, or Python to automate workflows and drive consistency.
- You pair a strong security mindset with an analytical approach to system hardening, vulnerability management, and performance tuning, ensuring that systems are optimised for capacity, speed, and recoverability.
- You take great pride in technical documentation, translating complex system architectures into clear operational procedures and diagrams that the whole team can rely on.
- As a self‑directed engineer, you manage your commitments effectively, combining strategic architectural vision with a practical, hands‑on mindset.
- You are able to remain a calm, methodical problem solver during incidents, prioritising effectively under pressure and communicating complex technical subjects with clarity to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Finally, you will join us as a collaborative team player who brings fresh perspectives to existing approaches, embraces feedback, and stays curious about emerging technologies; always seeking out practical, well-considered solutions that strengthen the studio’s technical foundation.
