About the Role
This is a hands‑on workshop and field‑based role supporting the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a specialist fleet of outside broadcast (OB) vehicles and trailers. You will work as part of a skilled technical team ensuring all vehicles remain safe, compliant, and fully operational to support live broadcast production activities. The role includes workshop‑based maintenance at Chalgrove and High Wycombe, alongside MOT preparation, breakdown support, and field‑based defect resolution when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on HGV vehicles and trailers
- Prepare vehicles and trailers for MOT testing and ensure full compliance standards are met
- Transport vehicles to MOT test stations as required
- Respond to breakdowns and provide roadside or site‑based support when necessary
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and system faults
- Complete accurate job cards, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation
- Carry out preventative maintenance in line with fleet schedules
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks where required (training provided if needed)
- Order and manage required parts and components
- Maintain workshop tools, equipment, and working environment to a high standard
- Ensure all work is completed to a “right first time” standard
- Communicate effectively with fleet and operations teams regarding progress and issues
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of modern HGV systems and technologies
- Support continuous improvement of fleet processes and safety standards
- Undertake additional duties as required to support operational demands
Candidate Requirements
- IMI Level 3 Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent qualification)
- Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) Driving Licence
- Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
- Strong understanding of HGV maintenance, diagnostics, and repair procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team
- Strong problem‑solving skills with attention to detail
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Commitment to health & safety and compliance standards
- Willingness to support breakdowns and occasional overtime/weekend work
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Previous experience in fleet, transport, or specialist vehicle environments
- Exposure to preventative maintenance systems
- Experience working with complex or specialist vehicle fleets
