The Opportunity

Pivt is supporting a growing engineering organisation operating within the nuclear and defence sectors in the appointment of an Engineering Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams delivering complex design and engineering work packages across highly regulated projects.

The successful candidate will play a key role in leading engineering delivery, ensuring technical excellence, managing engineering risks, and coordinating resources across a portfolio of projects involving advanced engineering systems and specialist process environments. This role would suit an experienced Engineering Manager with a strong background in regulated industries, particularly nuclear, defence, or other high-integrity engineering environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate and manage multi-disciplinary engineering teams delivering complex engineering work packages
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed to agreed specification, cost and schedule requirements
  • Manage engineering activities across the full project lifecycle including concept, design, verification, assessment and delivery
  • Ensure technical, safety and engineering risks are identified, managed and mitigated appropriately
  • Maintain effective engineering governance, standards and compliance throughout project delivery
  • Oversee technical reviews, design reviews and governance activities
  • Ensure engineering solutions are fit for purpose, safe, compliant and aligned with project objectives
  • Coordinate internal engineering disciplines, technical specialists and supply chain partners
  • Monitor and report project status, performance and resource requirements accurately
  • Support engineering strategy, planning, resource forecasting and delivery improvement initiatives
  • Ensure competent and suitably qualified personnel are deployed across projects
  • Engage subject matter experts where required and ensure lessons learned are captured and implemented
  • Support make/buy decisions and supply chain selection activities
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, project teams and external clients

Technical Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong background in engineering management within regulated industries such as nuclear, defence, energy, process, or infrastructure
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering design teams
  • Proven experience managing engineering delivery within quality-assured environments
  • Strong understanding of engineering governance, technical assurance and design review processes
  • Experience managing engineering risks, project schedules, budgets and technical compliance
  • Experience across engineering design lifecycle activities including concept, detailed design, verification and commissioning support
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and client-facing communication skills
  • Experience chairing technical reviews, governance reviews or design reviews
  • Understanding of safety-led engineering environments and engineering standards

Qualifications & Professional Memberships

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or related discipline (BEng minimum)
  • MEng or higher qualification desirable
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership preferred
