What you may be missing is an environment where your judgement is trusted, your presence is valued, and your influence genuinely shapes how people work every day. In this role, you are the Health & Safety lead on site. You’re visible, respected, and listened to. People come to you early, not after something's gone wrong. Safety here isn’t about box-ticking, it’s about relationships, common sense, and doing the right thing.
Why this role for you?
- You will have real influence, not just responsibility
- You will be working in a people-led education environment where safety is lived, not imposed.
- You’ll be trusted to use your professional judgement, not buried in unnecessary process
- You’ll be part of a culture where calm, credible advice is respected and relied upon
- If you enjoy being present, known, and relied upon, this role gives you the space to do exactly that.
The role
You are the organisation's stand-alone Health & Safety Officer, operating at Advisor level and working closely with Facilities and Estates, senior leaders, and staff across the site. You balance compliance with practicality, visibility with authority, and guidance with challenge, always with people at the centre of your approach.
What you’ll be doing
- Acting as the trusted Health & Safety lead for the site
- Providing practical, proportionate advice that works in a live education environment
- Leading on risk assessments, audits, inspections, and incident investigations
- Supporting facilities and estates activity from a Health & Safety perspective
- Ensuring compliance with UK and Sector Specific Health & Safety legislation
- Building a positive, confident safety culture with staff and students
What you bring
- NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience working independently in a Health & Safety role
- Confidence to advise, influence, and challenge at all levels
- A calm, credible presence, you’re a safe pair of hands
- Strong people skills and the ability to engage, not alienate
You know when to be firm, when to listen, and when to step in early to prevent issues altogether.
In return
- Salary up to £45,000, with flexibility for the right person
- A highly visible, trusted role with genuine autonomy
- A supportive, values-led environment where safety is taken seriously
- 30 days holiday per annum
If you’re already in a similar role and thinking, I’d stay if I had more influence and less noise, then this could be the move.
