Pivotal MEP Ltd is a growing specialist consultancy providing Commissioning Management, Commercial Management, Project Management and wider MEP support services across the UK.

We work closely with main contractors, MEP contractors, consultants and end users to support projects from the early planning and design stages through commissioning, integrated testing, training and final handover.

Our focus is straightforward: provide knowledgeable, proactive people who understand building services, take ownership of their projects and help our clients deliver successfully.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of upcoming projects, we are looking to expand our team with experienced Commissioning Managers.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced

Commissioning Manager t o join Pivotal MEP on a full-time basis, working across projects within the UK.

You will take responsibility for the planning, coordination, management and delivery of commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical and building services systems.

The role will involve working closely with project teams, subcontractors, consultants and clients to ensure systems are properly commissioned, documented, witnessed and handed over in accordance with the project requirements, relevant UK legislation, applicable standards and industry best practice.

Key responsibilities will include

• Developing and managing commissioning programmes, plans and strategies.
• Coordinating mechanical, electrical, controls and specialist commissioning activities.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, technical submissions and commissioning documentation.
• Monitoring installation readiness and identifying issues that could impact commissioning.
• Managing commissioning meetings and coordinating contractors and specialist vendors.
• Reviewing and tracking commissioning progress against the project programme.
• Coordinating system testing, witnessing and client demonstrations.
• Managing BMS, controls, cause & effect and integrated systems testing where applicable.
• Identifying commissioning risks, constraints and programme issues and driving these through to resolution.
• Managing commissioning documentation, test certification, snagging and close-out.
• Supporting client training, handover and final project completion.
• Ensuring commissioning activities are carried out in accordance with approved RAMS, project procedures and relevant health and safety requirements.
• Maintaining strong communication with clients and the wider project team throughout delivery.
• Technical Knowledge & UK Compliance

Candidates should have a good working knowledge of UK building services standards, legislation and recognised commissioning guidance, including where applicable:

• Building Regulations and relevant Approved Documents.
• CDM Regulations 2015 and general construction health and safety requirements.
• BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations.
• Relevant British Standards and industry guidance applicable to mechanical, electrical and life safety systems.
• CIBSE Commissioning Codes and associated guidance.
• BSRIA commissioning guidance and best practice.
• Water Regulations and recognised industry guidance for domestic water systems.
• Relevant fire alarm, emergency lighting, smoke control and life safety standards.
• Safe systems of work, permit-to-work procedures and isolation requirements.
• Understanding of commissioning requirements associated with Building Safety Act compliance and project handover documentation where applicable.

A detailed understanding of every standard is not essential, but candidates must be able to identify applicable requirements, understand their responsibilities and ensure commissioning activities are undertaken compliantly.

The successful candidate should demonstrate

• Strong technical understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems.
• Ability to review design information and identify commissionability issues.
• Abilityto interpret schematics, drawings, specifications and technical submissions.
• Experience reviewing commissioning method statements, test procedures and certificates.
• Ability to develop commissioning programmes and identify critical commissioning dependencies.
• Strong understanding of system interfaces and integrated testing requirements.
• Ability to manage and coordinate multiple subcontractors and specialist commissioning engineers.
• Confidence leading commissioning meetings and challenging incomplete or non-compliant works.
• Strong technical reporting and documentation skills.
• Good understanding of quality assurance, inspection, witnessing and handover processes.
• Ability to identify project risks and implement practical mitigation measures.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability.
• High level of attention to detail and ownership.
• Good client-facing and stakeholder-management skills.

Qualifications & Experience

Ideally, you will have

• Proven experience working within Commissioning Management or a senior commissioning role.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services.
• Experience across systems such as HVAC, ventilation, LTHW, CHW, domestic water, BMS, electrical distribution and life safety systems.
• Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and specialist commissioning engineers.
• Experience working on large, technically complex construction or MEP projects.
• A relevant Building Services, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification, although strong industry experience will also be considered.
• Relevant construction health and safety training.
• CSCS or equivalent competency card appropriate to the role.
• SMSTS or equivalent site-management training would be advantageous.
• Appropriate electrical, mechanical or AP-related competencies would be beneficial depending on project requirements.
• Familiarity with digital commissioning, QA and document-management platforms would be beneficial.
