Pītau-Allenvale is a specialist school supporting ORS-funded ākonga aged 5–21 across Christchurch and North Canterbury. Our learners are at the heart of what we do, and communication is a key part of helping them participate in learning, relationships and everyday life.
We’re looking for an experienced and passionate Speech‑Language Therapist to join our Specialist Services team.
Working as part of a collaborative, transdisciplinary team, you’ll work alongside ākonga, whānau, kaiako, teacher aides and other specialists to understand each learner’s strengths, needs and goals, and find practical ways to support their communication.
Your work will include assessment, intervention and specialist advice across speech, language, communication, literacy, AAC and social interaction. Just as importantly, you’ll help build the capability of the people around our ākonga so that communication support is part of everyday learning and life.
We’re looking for someone who:
- is passionate about working with children and young people with diverse and complex learning and communication needs
- builds warm and respectful relationships with ākonga, whānau and colleagues
enjoys working collaboratively as part of a transdisciplinary team - can translate specialist knowledge into practical strategies that work in classrooms and everyday environments
- values culturally responsive and inclusive practice
- is reflective, curious and willing to try different approaches when something isn’t working
- holds a recognised Speech‑Language Therapy qualification and meets the relevant eligibility requirements of the Primary Teachers’ Collective
Agreement.
You’ll be part of a team that shares knowledge, learns from each other and works together around the individual needs and aspirations of each ākonga.
