One of Europe’s leading tyre manufacturers, Pirelli UK Tyres Ltd, is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join us at our Carlisle factory.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, from 08:00-16:00 Monday to Friday.

Working within the Maintenance Department, and with the support and direction of the Maintenance Leadership Team, the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will ensure all equipment is operating to the required standards to ensure safe operation and to maintain production requirements and quality standards. The objective is to improve the Safety, Quality and Overall Efficiency of the department, concentrating primarily on the maintenance aspects that can contribute to this improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the correct completion of departmental maintenance tasks e.g. machine repairs, set ups, preventative maintenance checks and new installations.
  • Inspecting, assessing and taking action on planned work, modifications and breakdowns.
  • Installation and commissioning of new machinery in liaison with plant and process engineering staff.
  • Ensuring adherence to Company policy and statutory regulations especially in areas of Health, Safety and Engineering practice.
  • Completing all tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Following all standard operating procedures of working.
  • Attending relevant training and development activities as required.

Although predominantly working days, candidates must also have the flexibility to cover a 3 shift rotating pattern and weekends when necessary.

Education and Professional Background:

  • Time served mechanical engineer with appropriate Technical qualification.
  • HNC qualified or 3 years industrial experience.
  • Experience of maintaining and fault finding on industrial machinery.
  • Experience of maintaining hydraulic systems.
  • Experience of maintaining pneumatic systems.
  • Experience of maintaining industrial drive systems (gearboxes/sprockets/chains/belts etc.).
  • Machining (lathe/milling machine) experience desirable.
  • Fabrication experience desirable.

Professional and Personal Aptitudes:

  • A sound problem solving ability.
  • Good communication and people management skills.
  • Sound technical knowledge of the processes and machinery.
  • Self‑motivated, focussed and able to work on own initiative.
  • High level of resilience and able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Good organisation and IT skills.
