Organisationpositionandpurpose
SupportingourInternationalreferencelaboratoriesatVesicularDiseaseReferenceLaboratory ,WRLFMD andNon-VesicularReferenceLaboratory ,thispositionprovidesauniqueopportunitytodevelopacareeraimedattranslatingemergingdiagnostictechniquesandimproveddiseasecontrolapproachesthatarerelevantforboththeUKandcountriesreceivingoverseasdevelopmentassistance(ODA).Workingcloselywithscientistsengagedinfundamentalresearch,youwilldevelopaportfolioofprojectsthroughexistingandnewcollaborationswithpublicandindustrialpartners.Youwillactasaconduittopioneernewmethodsandestablishnewtools,andgenerateoutputswithinternationalimpacttoensureweachieveouraimofpredicting,detectingandcontrollingoutbreaksofviraldiseases.
Responsiblefordeliveryaprogrammeofappliedresearch,whichwillinclude:50%
- Deliveringscientificworkthattargetsthedevelopmentofnoveldiagnosticplatformsforlivestockdiseases.
- Ensuringresearchactivitiesalignwiththeprioritiesofthereferencelaboratories.
- Recognisingapplied-researchpotentialandimpactsarisingfromtheInstituteresearchportfolio.
- Withinthegroup,actingastheprimarycontacttoestablishandmaintaincollaborativepartnershipswithacademicandindustrialpartners
- IntegratingwithresearchleadersbasedattheInstitute.
- Buildingcapacityfordiagnosticanddiseasecontrolwithinlaboratorynetworks.
Contributetothemanagementofthereferencelaboratories:10%
- Directline-managementofjuniorstafftoensurethattheyaremotivatedtocontributetopriorityobjectives
- Committocontributetoon-callrotasforout-of-hourstesting(whereneeded)
