Main Purpose of the Job

This Composite Laminator role is responsible for the manufacturing and laminating of composite components, ensuring high-quality standards are maintained throughout the manufacturing process. The ideal candidate will have experience in high and low volume programs, tooling manufacture and visual quality (VQ) products ideally within automotive or motorsport manufacturing environments.

Main Task of the Job

  • Prepare moulds and tooling, including cleaning, inspection, and application of release systems.
  • Handle, store, and track pre-preg materials in accordance with out-time and freezer storage requirements.
  • Cut and kit pre-preg plies using templates, or other manual methods.
  • Perform accurate lay-up of pre-preg materials following ply books, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Ensure correct fibre orientation, ply sequencing, and debulking throughout the lay-up process.
  • Conduct vacuum bagging, including application of peel ply, breather, release films, and bagging materials.
  • Prepare components for curing in autoclaves or ovens, ensuring all parameters are correctly set and recorded.
  • Inspect parts for defects such as wrinkles, bridging, FOD (foreign object debris), and delamination.
  • Maintain strict cleanliness standards in controlled environments.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve non-conformances and improve processes.

Health & Safety Compliance:

Help maintain a safe working environment by ensuring cleanliness and adhering to safety protocols. Autoclave operation (Optional).

Skills

  • Ability to read technical drawings and lay-up instructions.
  • Knowledge of vacuum bagging and autoclave curing processes.
  • Strong manual dexterity and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good understanding of quality control standards.
  • Experience in automotive or motorsport manufacturing preferred.

Health and Safety Awareness:

Basic understanding of health and safety regulations in a workshop setting is beneficial.
