We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Protein Scientist to join our research and development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the expression, purification, and characterization of various proteins to support drug discovery and development projects within Piramal Healthcare UK Limited.
Responsibilities:
- Design and execute experiments for the expression of recombinant proteins in various host systems (e.g., bacterial, insect, mammalian cells).
- Develop and optimize protein purification strategies using a range of chromatographic techniques (e.g., affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion).
- Perform biophysical and biochemical characterization of purified proteins to assess purity, integrity, activity, and stability (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western blot, mass spectrometry, DLS, SEC-MALS, thermal denaturation assays).
- Contribute to design and execution of protein engineering experiments to improve protein properties or function.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and data analysis.
- Interpret experimental data, troubleshoot technical issues, and present findings to internal teams.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across different disciplines, including molecular biology, assay development, and structural biology.
- Stay current with scientific literature and new technologies in the field of protein science.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and good laboratory practices.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Protein Science, or a related field with 0-3 years of relevant industry experience, or an M.S. with 3-5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Proven expertise in protein expression systems (e.g., E. coli, baculovirus/insect cells, mammalian cells).
- Extensive hands-on experience with various protein purification techniques (e.g., ÄKTA FPLC systems, affinity chromatography, IEX, SEC).
- Proficient in a range of protein characterization methods (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western blot, mass spectrometry, DLS, fluorescence spectroscopy).
- Strong understanding of protein structure-function relationships.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Experience with protein engineering techniques is a plus.
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical drug discovery and development processes is desirable.
