Responsible to: The Chair and Trustees of Pippins
Responsible for: The day-to-day management of Pippins ensuring the efficient, safe and effective running of the nursery, pre-school and Kidz star club.
Primary responsibilities
- Buildings and facilities management
- To manage the day to day running of the premises.
- To ensure that the premises and resources are appropriate, safe, secure, clean and properly maintained.
- To ensure that the Health and Safety policy of Pippins is up to date, fully implemented and adhered to by all members of staff and visitors.
- To be the point of liaison between Pippins and the Landlord.
- To be the point of contact with the Head teacher of Landscore Primary School.
- To carry out regular, appropriate risk assessments, identifying needs and ensuring that issues are addressed promptly.
- To take overall responsibility for the day-to-day health and safety of children, staff and visitors.
- Finance
- Working with administrative staff and the Treasurer, ensure that the financial management of Pippins is efficient, effective and accurate.
- To maintain a budget plan for the current and next financial year in order to maximise the employment of the income for the delivery of the Curriculum.
- To control costs in line with the agreed budget.
- To ensure that accurate and up to date financial records are maintained and available to the treasurer and the Trustees upon request.
- To monitor and advise the Trustees upon occupancy rates, fees, income, costs, expenditure and forward planning.
- To provide a report for Trustee meetings.
- To ensure compliance with all appropriate financial legislation, regulations, GDPR (or its replacement), OFSTED and Devon County Council.
- Personnel
- To provide leadership and a positive role model to all staff and visitors.
- To recruit and maintain a full complement of appropriately trained, high-quality staff.
- To ensure that Pippins own values and the principles of equality and diversity are paramount in the recruitment, development and support of all staff.
- To maintain the contracts of staff and to provide appropriate periods of induction and probation for recruits.
- To build, maintain and develop a strong and positive staff team.
- To provide a clear structure of support and continuing professional development and training for all members of staff including self.
- To ensure that there is an effective policy with transparent structures and processes for the supervision and annual appraisal of all staff including self.
- To plan and maintain the daily rota for the effective deployment of staff ensuring adequate safe cover throughout the setting.
- To ensure that all staff are knowledgeable and appropriately trained in the daily implementation of policies and guidelines with regard to safeguarding, health and safety and outstanding curriculum practice.
- To hold regular staff meetings and provide transparent lines of communication between staff and management.
- To have overall responsibility for the implementation of policies with regard to staff code of conduct and discipline.
- To regularly review the staffing structure of Pippins and report to the Trustees.
- The Children and the Curriculum
- The safeguarding of children is paramount and will be at the forefront of planning for the built environment, the curriculum resources and the daily activities of children in our care.
- The Manager has overall responsibility for and is the first point of contact for any issues relating to the safeguarding of the children in our care.
- To ensure that there is always an appropriately trained member of staff available on the premises to deal with any reports of or issues with the safeguarding of the children in our care.
- To have overall responsibility for the admission of children to Pippins and for the appropriate induction of both the child and the parents/carers.
- The Manager must have an in depth knowledge and understanding of the EYFS statutory framework and its learning and development requirements.
- In partnership with the team to establish and maintain a high-quality play-based learning environment which provides challenging and enjoyable adult initiated and child led learning opportunities, both indoor and outdoor.
- In partnership with the staff team develop, implement and maintain a play based curriculum of rich and stimulating learning experiences appropriate to age and development.
- To provide a strong role model to staff demonstrating good practice, effective team working and positive relationships with children, parents/carers and colleagues.
- In partnership with the staff team develop, implement and maintain systems for effective curriculum planning, observation, robust assessment, record keeping and the reporting of children's progress.
- To ensure that Pippins meets the criteria for the minimum of a good OFSTED rating.
- To establish and maintain outstanding, two-way relationships and communications with parents/carers.
- To appoint and supervise a SENDCO, and to ensure that an appropriate individual ability-based curriculum is in place and implemented for children on the register.
- To appoint and supervise an on-site leader for the Kidz star club at Landscore Primary School.
- Other
- To ensure that all legally required and setting appropriate policies are in place and regularly reviewed in partnership with the Trustees.
- To ensure that the work of Pippins is publicised appropriately in the community.
- To lead in the appropriate marketing and development of Pippins.
- To proactively represent Pippins and advance its interests in the community.
