Job Description

UI/UX Designer (Founding Team Member)

Design the App That Redefines Financial Wellbeing

**UK-Based Applicants Only**

£145/day freelance • c.1 day a week • Remote (UK-based) • Early equity potential • c.6-month contract

Want to Lead a Design Project That Could Change Lives?

Most finance apps look the same – generic dashboards, cluttered menus, and colour-coded graphs that leave you more stressed than when you opened them. Pipin is building something different.

We’re creating an app that helps people feel in control of their money without the shame, jargon, or spreadsheet-induced headaches. It’s intuitive, human, and rooted in behavioural design – and you could be the one shaping how it looks, feels, and flows.

The product foundations are in place. We now need a leader for UI/UX under our Product Team seniors, guiding the project from discovery to final polish, ensuring Pipin is a joy to use.

This role is perfect if you’re looking for a side project with real purpose, the chance to own your own design stream, and join a founding team pre-launch.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading the UI/UX design for Pipin’s MVP and beyond.
  • Translating complex financial concepts into beautifully simple user journeys.
  • Collaborating with our Product Team to refine features and interactions.
  • Creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that balance usability with brand personality.
  • Running lightweight user testing and iterating based on feedback.
  • Challenging assumptions (even from the CEO) to make sure we’re building the best experience possible.

What Would Make You a Great Fit?

We’re not after a laundry list of skills, but you should:

  • Have solid UI/UX experience (agency, in-house, or freelance) and be confident owning a project from start to finish.
  • Understand usability principles and interaction design.
  • Be able to create designs that work across platforms.
  • Have an eye for detail and a brain for solving design problems.
  • Be extremely curious, proactive, and unafraid to speak up when something could be better.

You don’t need to have led a full product before, but you do need the hunger, creativity, and skill to push this forward.

A Quick Note

This role is designed to sit alongside a full-time job, not replace one (yet).

It’s ideal for someone who’s curious about the startup world, wants to stretch their creative muscles, and is up for helping build something meaningful in their spare time (we're aligned with UNSDG3). It won’t suit someone looking for a full-time role right now. But if you’ve got solid experience, a stable setup, and a bit of headspace for something exciting on the side, this could be a great fit.

There’s potential for this to evolve into a full-time senior role as we grow and raise further funding. But for now, think of it as a side project with purpose (and a future).

Why Join Pipin Now?

Because this is the rare kind of side project that could turn into your main thing – and you’ll be shaping it from the start.

You’ll join as our go-to design expert, trusted to lead UI/UX under the Product Team seniors with maximum autonomy. No one’s here to hand you orders. We’re here to hand you the wheel. From day one, your decisions will directly shape how thousands of people interact with Pipin, making you a core part of the path we walk down.

This is a £145/day freelance role, with equity options so you own part of what you help create. The day rate is reduced while we’re bootstrapped, but it rises once we secure funding post-launch. If you thrive here, there’s a senior full-time role waiting for you.

We’re building Pipin as a founding team that’s scrappy, smart, and all-in on making something with real social impact. We’re aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (improving health and wellbeing) because financial stress is a health issue as much as it is a money issue.

Start-ups like this are where diamonds are made. Fast-moving, creative, full of challenge and energy. The rest of the team are exactly those sorts of people. You’ll have the security of keeping your current role, but the thrill of building something meaningful on the side, with the chance to make it your future.

The Details

  • £145/day freelance rate, based on c.1 day/week commitment.
  • Equity potential depending on contribution.
  • Possible future full-time leadership role in the company.
  • Remote-first, UK based.
  • C.6-month contract, with room to evolve.
  • Reporting directly to the founder.
  • You’ll need your own setup (laptop, tools, etc.)
  • Hours are flexible, outcomes matter more than online status.
