As our operations continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced UK Finance and Payroll Officer to support our payroll and day-to-day finance activities.

Role Purpose

The UK Finance and Payroll Officer will be responsible for processing accurate and timely payroll, maintaining financial records, completing reconciliations and supporting the wider finance function.

The successful candidate will work closely with Finance, HR, site management and external advisers to ensure compliance with UK payroll, pension, tax and financial requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process weekly and monthly payroll for PAYE employees, CIS Contractors.
  • Prepare, Review and reconcile timesheets, attendance records, overtime, shift payments, allowances, deductions, holiday pay and sickness payments.
  • Manage and maintain employee legal and compliance documentation, including employment contracts, Right to Work checks and other required employment records.
  • Process new starters, leavers, tax codes, statutory payments, student loan deductions, P45s and P60s.
  • Support HMRC Real Time Information submissions, including FPS and EPS submissions.
  • Administer workplace pension and auto-enrolment processes, including contribution uploads and reconciliations with pension.
  • Respond to employee payroll queries and resolve discrepancies promptly and professionally.
  • Prepare payroll journals and reconcile payroll control accounts.
  • Process purchase invoices, supplier statements, customer invoices, expense claims and payment records.
  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and month-end reporting.
  • Maintain accurate financial records in program, including nominal codes, project codes and VAT treatment.
  • Assist with CIS administration, subcontractor verification, deductions, reconciliations and monthly returns.
  • Support VAT returns, accruals, prepayments, audits and management reporting.
  • Allocate payroll and labour costs accurately across projects and cost centres.
  • Maintain confidential and audit-ready payroll and finance records.
  • Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and company procedures.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience processing UK payroll is essential. Experience administering payroll under the NAECI, ECSA and/or Site-Specific Agreement (SSA) frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Good knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments and payroll deductions.
  • Experience with payroll reconciliations.
  • Understanding of workplace pensions and auto-enrolment requirements.
  • Previous experience in finance administration or transactional accounting.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience using payroll and accounting software.
  • Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet fixed payroll and finance deadlines.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to investigate discrepancies and work effectively with employees, managers and external advisers.

Desirable

  • Experience using Brightpay, finance programs and pension system.
  • Knowledge of CIS and VAT requirements.
  • Experience processing weekly payroll for a multi-site workforce.
  • Previous experience within the construction, engineering or project-based sector.
  • CIPP, AAT or another relevant payroll or accounting qualification, completed or in progress.
