The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Tender Manager to lead and manage the full tendering process across mechanical and pipework projects. This is a key commercial role within the business, responsible for securing profitable work, improving bid quality, and supporting PipeWize’s continued growth. You will work closely with senior management, operations teams, and clients to ensure all tenders are commercially sound, technically accurate, and professionally presented.
Key Responsibilities
- Tender Management
- Manage the full tender lifecycle from enquiry through to submission
- Review ITTs and contribute to bid/no-bid decisions
- Develop tender programmes and ensure deadlines are met
- Coordinate inputs from estimating, operations, procurement, and HSEQ
- Lead the development of competitive and profitable pricing
- Review labour outputs, productivity rates, and cost assumptions
- Apply commercial judgement to margins, risk, and market conditions
- Benchmark against previous projects and industry standards
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and scope documents
- Identify risks, gaps, and ambiguities within tender packages
- Prepare and manage RFIs and clarifications with clients
- Issue enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers
- Evaluate and level quotations
- Negotiate best value and build key supplier relationships
- Identify and assess commercial, technical, and programme risks
- Ensure risks are clearly captured, priced, or qualified within submissions
- Prepare high-quality tender submissions including:
- Method statements
- Resource and execution plans
- Commercial clarifications and exclusions
- Act as a key point of contact during the tender process
- Attend tender interviews and meetings
- Build strong early-stage client relationships
- Lead detailed handovers to project delivery teams
- Clearly communicate pricing assumptions, risks, and scope
- Support a smooth transition from tender to project execution
Requirements
- Proven experience in a Tender Manager / Senior Estimator role within mechanical or MEP contracting
- Strong understanding of pipework installation, welding, and industrial mechanical systems
- Experience pricing projects in the £1m – £30m+ range
- Excellent commercial awareness and risk management capability
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Practical, hands-on mindset with awareness of site operations
Desirable
- Experience working on large industrial projects (e.g. energy, process, manufacturing)
- Familiarity with labour-only and self-delivery models
- Previous Tier 1 or major subcontractor experience
