About the Company

Our client is an international renewable energy company specialising in the development, engineering, construction and operation of utility scale solar PV and battery energy storage projects across Europe, Africa and other international markets.

With more than two decades of experience in the renewable energy sector, the business has built a strong international track record delivering projects across the full lifecycle, from early stage development and technical design through to construction, commissioning and operations.

The company operates across multiple international markets, giving its technical teams exposure to different grid requirements, regulatory environments and project configurations. Its portfolio includes utility scale solar PV, commercial and industrial solar and increasingly sophisticated battery energy storage projects.

The business is particularly active in the development of co-located solar and battery storage projects, where strong electrical engineering is critical to the successful integration of generation, storage, grid connection and control systems.

The technical team plays a central role within the wider organisation, providing engineering expertise across projects and helping to establish consistent technical standards and international best practice. This is an opportunity to join a growing renewable energy business where you will have genuine technical ownership and exposure to complex international projects.

The Opportunity

The company is looking to appoint a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join its technical engineering team.

You will be responsible for providing detailed electrical engineering and design support across a portfolio of solar PV and battery energy storage projects, with a particular focus on co-located solar and BESS developments across Europe and Africa.

Working closely with engineering, project development, construction and commercial teams, you will take ownership of key electrical design activities and ensure projects meet the required technical, regulatory and quality standards.

This is a senior technical position offering the opportunity to take ownership of electrical design packages, work on technically complex renewable energy projects and develop further expertise across solar PV, BESS, grid connection and electrical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead electrical design activities across solar PV and battery energy storage projects
  • Develop and review electrical design documentation, drawings and technical specifications
  • Design and specify low voltage and medium voltage electrical systems
  • Develop electrical single line diagrams, schematics and associated design documentation
  • Design and specify electrical protection systems and support protection coordination studies
  • Design and specify earthing and lightning protection systems
  • Develop and review SCADA architecture and electrical control system requirements
  • Produce and review CAD drawings and electrical layouts
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant international IEC standards and local regulations
  • Manage and coordinate electrical engineering deliverables throughout the project lifecycle

Project Development & Delivery

  • Provide technical electrical engineering support during project development and delivery
  • Review technical designs and documentation produced by external engineering consultants, suppliers and contractors
  • Support technical tender processes, proposals and supplier evaluations
  • Provide electrical engineering input into equipment selection and technical specifications
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning and project handover
  • Identify and resolve electrical design and engineering issues throughout the project lifecycle
  • Produce high level technical reports and communicate engineering findings to internal stakeholders

About You

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with strong technical knowledge and an interest in working on complex renewable energy projects.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Around 5 years' experience in electrical engineering design and project delivery
  • Experience working on solar PV and/or battery energy storage projects
  • Strong experience with LV and MV electrical design
  • Experience with electrical protection systems and protection coordination
  • Experience with earthing system design and specification
  • Experience with SCADA design and specification
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and relevant IEC standards
  • Experience producing and reviewing electrical drawings and technical documentation
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Experience with PVsyst, DIgSILENT PowerFactory and/or HOMER would be advantageous
  • Experience supporting FAT, SAT and commissioning activities
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a structured approach to engineering
  • Ability to take ownership of technical workstreams and deliver independently
  • Comfortable working across multiple projects and international markets
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel internationally across Europe and Africa
  • Professionally registered, or working towards professional registration, would be advantageous
