Our client is a well-established and fast-growing company in the renewable energy sector. They deliver a market-leading solution for mid-sized commercial and industrial customers by financing, building, and operating on-site generation assets and acting as the site’s sole electricity supplier. Continued growth has created the need to strengthen their commercial and financial modelling capability.
We are looking for a Renewable Energy Analyst / Techno-Economic Modeler with experience in the sizing and commercial evaluation of behind-the-meter energy systems such as solar PV, battery storage, wind, and EV charging. The role sits within the commercial design function and focuses on assessing customer sites, modelling optimal on-site energy solutions, and developing clear financial business cases to support sales and project development.
Key Responsibilities- Define and communicate financial model inputs to sales teams and customers
- Assess site suitability for solar PV and wind installations using industry-standard tools
- Model and optimise behind-the-meter system sizing, considering site constraints, component costs, and available revenue and cost-avoidance streams
- Develop financial business cases and Electricity-as-a-Service tariff proposals using multi-year NPV and IRR models
- Refine site assessments in later sales stages alongside engineers and project managers
- Track energy market developments and identify commercial opportunities
- Maintain and improve techno-economic and financial models
The ideal candidate has a good understanding of the energy transition and the commercial value of combining solar PV and battery storage behind the meter. Familiarity with revenue streams such as wholesale markets, peak avoidance, non-commodity cost savings, capacity markets, and electricity tariffs is beneficial.
A strong grounding in financial modelling is essential. Advanced Excel skills are required, with experience in Python or MATLAB considered a plus.
Skills and Attributes- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Logical, structured approach to problem-solving
- Comfortable working with financial models and data
- Detail-oriented and commercially minded
- Motivated, proactive, and keen to develop in a fast-growing business
- Confident using modern tools, including AI, to standardise and improve outputs
