We are currently recruiting for an Autonomous Systems Engineer with strong C++ development experience to join a leading Aerospace & Defence organisation working on next-generation autonomous and mission-critical technologies. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects across advanced autonomous defence technologies. We are looking for engineers who can combine strong software engineering capability with systems-level understanding in complex, safety-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance software for autonomous and real-time systems using C++.
- Support the development of autonomous behaviours, navigation, guidance, control, and decision-making systems.
- Work across the full software and systems engineering lifecycle, from concept development through to integration, testing, and deployment.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including software, systems, electronics, simulation, and mechanical engineers.
- Develop and integrate algorithms relating to autonomy, sensor fusion, perception, tracking, or control systems.
- Support simulation, modelling, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing activities.
- Contribute to system architecture, technical design reviews, and performance optimisation.
- Produce high-quality technical documentation in line with aerospace and defence standards.
- Support verification, validation, and debugging activities within secure and safety-critical environments.
- Participate in continuous improvement and innovation initiatives within autonomous technologies.
Required Skills & Experience
- Previous experience working on autonomous systems, robotics, UAVs, defence systems, or real-time embedded applications.
- Understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, and multithreaded programming.
- Experience developing software within Linux environments.
- Familiarity with systems engineering principles and integration activities.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
