What is our Graduate Surveyor programme?

The Graduate Surveying programme ensures our graduates achieve qualified status through either the MRICS (APC) or AssocRICS (ATC) pathways. Our training programme, coupled with extremely valuable ‘on the job’ experience, enables our graduates to realise their full potential as a working professional, in addition to achieving their ambitions to become the leading surveyors of the future.

What will you get up to? What does the job involve?

In a nutshell, our Graduate Surveyors will be working on utilities and infrastructure projects helping to manage land-related issues during the development of infrastructure like pipelines, power lines, or roads. Their role includes negotiating access agreements, assessing and handling compensation claims for landowners, ensuring compliance with regulations, and minimising the impact of projects on agricultural land and rural properties. You will act as the valuable intermediary between our clients and landowners, overseeing effective land access and management while ensuring fair compensation and resolving disputes.

A day in the life of a Graduate Surveyor could involve any of the following:

  • Providing expertise: delivering land and property advice to a range of clients, helping them to make informed decisions.
  • Heads of terms and licences: agreeing Heads of terms and contractual agreements with stakeholders on behalf of clients to aid the delivery of infrastructure projects.
  • Site noticing: getting out and about with your colleagues putting up notices to inform land owners of client schemes.
  • Records of condition: reviewing and advising on various different land types, undertaking schedules of condition of private land.
  • Site visits: witnessing the tangible impact your work is having on Utilities & Infrastructure throughout the UK by seeing the projects in-person and monitoring their progress.
  • Compensation and Valuation: assessing the financial impact of infrastructure projects, agreeing compensation claims; think valuation of land and property, agricultural losses, and general disturbance.
  • Handling landlord and tenant relationships: overseeing tenancy agreements and ensuring legal compliance.
  • Property and asset management: managing and optimising the performance of real estate and other tangible assets.
  • Problem solving: working with the wider DM team and your clients to problem solve, advise on risks and reach solutions.
  • Data and technology: delivering large scale schemes through innovative big data, technology and reporting functions.

What do we need from you?

We don’t expect you to be an expert from day one, we're seeking the right combination of skills and attributes, like proactivity, problem-solving and a keen eye for detail that will contribute to your success. However, to successfully enrol on our programme, you will need to hold a RICS accredited or relevant degree which will allow you to sit either your APC or ATC to become MRICS or AssocRICS qualified. Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence and your own means of transport will also be essential.

Why join us?

  • A fully funded professional qualification (APC or ATC) with consistent support, mentoring and coaching from an experienced RICS training team plus our DM Academy, a team that is dedicated to your learning & development.
