A large, well-established chilled distribution site is seeking an Engineering & Facilities Manager to take ownership of site engineering, facilities, and contractor management following a planned retirement. This is a highly visible role with responsibility for the smooth, safe, and compliant operation of the depot. You'll act as the main point of contact for all engineering and facilities matters, balancing hands-on problem solving with leadership, planning, and stakeholder engagement.
Team & Scope
- 3 direct reports (2 semi-skilled engineers and 1 receptionist)
- Full responsibility for all site contractors and service providers
- Oversight of facilities, building services, compliance, and small projects
- Occasional support to two nearby satellite sites (travel covered, company car/car allowance provided)
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain high Health & Safety standards across site
- Support and lead audits, inspections, and compliance activity
- Manage contractors: scheduling, supervision, and quality of service delivery
- Take ownership of breakdowns, escalating appropriately and ensuring resolution
- Deliver maintenance plans, PPM schedules, and site improvement projects
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability and performance
- Manage documentation, statutory checks, and compliance records
- Engage with key stakeholders to plan and deliver ongoing and future projects
About You
- Experience in engineering, facilities, manufacturing, or distribution environments
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing people, projects, and contractors
- Confident taking responsibility for site operations and decision-making
- Level 3 engineering qualification (minimum)
- Electrically biased background desirable
- Knowledge of CDM, GMP, 5S, TPM, or lean methodologies advantageous
- Comfortable acting as the technical escalation point for “simple faults”
- Full UK driving licence
