An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Engineer to join a growing food manufacturing site in Bury. Following significant investment in production and packaging operations, the company is looking for an experienced engineer to help optimise machinery performance and reliability as part of its continuous improvement drive.

Key Responsibilities for the maintenance engineer:

  • Lead and manage the plant maintenance programme based on best practices in the industry, with a focus on planned, preventative, and predictive maintenance.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime and ensure production continuity.
  • Maintain and service site infrastructure, including electrical and mechanical equipment, controls, and safety systems.
  • Monitor inventory levels of spare parts and maintenance supplies, and initiate reorders when required.
  • Service and maintain a wide range of machinery including production lines, thermo-formers, MAP packing machines, portion-controlled fillers, steamers, clippers, and slicers.
  • Work alongside the Project Analyst to identify and implement improvements in utility usage and efficiency.
  • Regularly evaluate equipment performance and identify opportunities to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Contribute to engineering KPIs and strategic goals for operational excellence.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Hygiene regulations.

What We're Looking For In a maintenance engineer:

  • Previous experience in a food production or FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of both reactive and preventative maintenance methods.
  • Multi-skilled in electrical and mechanical engineering (qualification desirable).
  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Organised, proactive, and capable of managing shifting priorities.
  • A flexible, hands-on team player committed to high standards.
