We are currently recruiting for an experienced Class 1 Driver to join a well-established business based in Stockton-on-Tees. This is a permanent opportunity working a 4 on 4 off days shift pattern, although candidates must be flexible and willing to cover night shifts when required by the business.
The successful Class 1 Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of hazardous materials using tanker vehicles. Due to the nature of the operation, previous tanker driving experience and strong Dangerous Goods / ADR knowledge are essential.
You will be responsible for carrying out all deliveries safely and in accordance with ADR regulations, company procedures and current transport legislation. The role requires a professional driver who takes safety seriously and is comfortable working within a highly regulated environment.
Sector – Hazardous Materials / Tanker Operations
The Class 1 Driver will be responsible for:
- Operating Class 1 HGV tanker vehicles safely and professionally.
- Transporting hazardous materials in accordance with ADR regulations.
- Carrying out tanker collections and deliveries to customer sites.
- Completing all required vehicle, load and transport documentation accurately.
- Carrying out daily vehicle safety checks and reporting defects immediately.
- Ensuring loads are transported, handled and delivered safely.
- Following all site-specific health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Maintaining excellent standards of vehicle cleanliness and presentation.
- Communicating professionally with customers, transport teams and site personnel.
- Working a 4 on 4 off days pattern while remaining flexible to cover nights when operationally required.
Non-Negotiable Requirements for the Class 1 Driver:
- Valid Class 1 / Category C+E Driving Licence.
- Dangerous Goods / ADR experience and knowledge – Class 8 & Class 9 minimum required.
- Previous tanker driving experience – essential.
- Valid Driver CPC Qualification – essential.
- Candidates must be willing and able to work nights when required.
Requirements for the Class 1 Driver:
- Strong understanding of UK driving regulations and Working Time Directive requirements.
- Good understanding of vehicle and load safety.
- Ability to complete transport documentation accurately.
- Strong awareness of health and safety when transporting hazardous materials.
- Reliable and professional approach to work.
- Good communication skills when dealing with customers and colleagues.
Desirable Requirements for the Class 1 Driver:
- Additional ADR classes beyond Classes 8 and 9.
- Previous experience transporting chemicals or other hazardous materials.
- Experience working within chemical, waste, industrial or environmental services.
