Pioneer People are seeking a resilient, compassionate, and committed KS3 and KS4 Teacher of Science/ Science Leader to work with students aged 11–16 in an alternative provision setting in Worcester. This is a unique opportunity for an educator who not only delivers engaging lessons but also takes ownership of developing and shaping a meaningful, inclusive Science curriculum.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about re-engaging young people who may face barriers to mainstream education while driving high standards in teaching and learning across the subject. This temp-perm role is starting full time from September.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging Science lessons tailored to students aged 11–16 (KS3 and KS4)
  • Lead the development, implementation, and review of the Science curriculum to ensure it is accessible, relevant, and ambitious
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of students with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to support student engagement and progress
  • Assess, monitor, and track progress, setting personalised and achievable targets
  • Maintain a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement and curriculum planning
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, safeguarding teams, and external agencies
  • Support behaviour management strategies and individual education plans (IEPs)
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (exceptional unqualified candidates may be considered)
  • Degree in Science or a related subject
  • Experience teaching students in KS3 and KS4
  • Proven ability or readiness to lead a subject area or contribute to curriculum development
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to differentiate effectively for a wide range of needs
  • A patient, empathetic, and consistent approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
Desirable
  • Experience in an alternative provision, PRU, SEMH or SEN setting
  • Experience leading a subject or contributing to curriculum design
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed or restorative practices
  • Experience supporting students with SEMH needs
