This role is temporary with a view to be made permanent after a 12 week evaluation. The role would suit someone who has the following qualities:

Reporting to: Deputy Headteacher

Pay Scale: (FTE £34,434 to £41,771) actual salary £26,881 - £32,60

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 3:30pm

Contract: Temp to Permanent

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: STUDENT SUPPORT

  • Take a lead role in delivering support to students in need.
  • Advise students on social, health and emotional wellbeing.
  • Assess students to identify those requiring additional support.
  • Build productive relationships, acting as a positive role model.
  • Challenge, motivate and promote positive self-esteem.

PROVISION OF MEDICAL CARE

  • Provide effective first response medical care to pupils.
  • Treat pupils appropriately and support return to timetable where possible.
  • Arrange onward care where necessary (home, GP, hospital).
  • Administer medication in accordance with School policy.
  • Liaise with parents and staff on medical and mental health matters.
  • Ensure medical questionnaires and parental consent forms are obtained and recorded.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Maintain accurate, secure medical records (hard copy and Microsoft Teams).
  • Record all treatment, medication and actions taken.
  • Maintain up-to-date medical alert lists (allergies, Epipens, asthma).
  • Maintain, restock and safely store medical and first aid equipment.
  • Act as first responder for accidents and record all first aid given.
  • Complete RIDDOR reports where required with the Deputy Headteacher.
  • Inform parents of accidents, incidents and treatment.
  • Ensure medical provision for trips, visits and excursions.
  • Implement healthcare plans and support staff training as required.
  • Maintain first aid kits and staff first aid training records.
  • Assist with student support administration as appropriate.

COORDINATING IMMUNISATION

  • Liaise with health authorities to organise immunisation programmes.
  • Manage parental communications, consent and record keeping.

TRAINING AND COMMUNICATION

  • Provide first aid updates and raise health awareness as required.
  • Meet regularly with pastoral staff and attend Health & Safety Committee.
  • Support policy reviews with relevant staff.

OTHER

  • Undertake other reasonable duties commensurate with the role.

OTHER SPECIFIC DUTIES

Any other duties appropriate to the grade of the post, subject to any reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act. The many and varied tasks involved in the administration of the School require a team effort with a flexible approach and a willingness to co-operate with other members of the staff. The Support Staff Team members have a key function of providing the interface between the School, the public and the parents.

A high priority is to be given to standard of presentation of all written communications, booklets and information sheets. Similarly, there should be a high standard of courtesy and good manners in all dealings with visitors and enquiries to the school. Postholders must comply with the policies and procedures of the School.
