The Team

Risk management and regulatory compliance are critical to our organisation. The General Counsel’s Office includes the New Business Solutions Team and a dedicated Conflicts Team, with more than 40 compliance professionals across UK, Asia Pac, Middle East and Australia. The Conflicts Team operates across Birmingham and Glasgow and includes 8 Conflicts Analysts and 3 Senior Conflicts Analysts, with some hybrid roles based in Hong Kong.

The Role

The purpose of this role is to ensure the firm remains compliant with legal and regulatory requirements by effectively managing commercial and legal conflicts in line with the firm’s global strategy and policies. The role involves conducting conflict checks on new and existing clients and matters for all offices, understanding legal and commercial conflict issues, and ensuring that appropriate compliance controls and procedures are in place to prevent conflicts of interest and maintain client confidentiality. You will also support internal projects, wider training, and day-to-day administrative tasks (such as responding to queries in our internal mailbox).

Key responsibilities include the end-to-end management of conflict checks, liaising with lawyers and PAs, analyzing conflict search results, and escalating potential conflicts as needed. You will develop an understanding of the firm’s conflicts system (Intapp) and the client base, implement information barriers when required, and assist with higher-volume workflows and ad-hoc queries from the business. You will also identify high-risk factors such as sanctions and coordinate with the Risk Team as appropriate, and work with the Client Team regarding Engagement Terms policies.

You will support the Senior Conflicts Analysts, Managers, and Conflicts Investigation Team as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing new matters submitted by the business and running conflict checks on new clients and all relevant parties.
  • Owning the conflict checks from initial review through matter record creation.
  • Clearing low-to-medium risk conflict issues, as appropriate.
  • Liaising with relevant lawyers/partners and PAs on conflicts queries.
  • Analyzing information from conflict and ownership searches to identify potential conflicts.
  • Prioritising urgent conflict check requests and managing the conflicts queue efficiently.
  • Flagging and escalating potential issues with clear analysis and expected outcomes.
  • Maintaining understanding of the firm’s Conflicts System (Intapp).
  • Developing knowledge of the firm’s client base and implementing information barriers where required.
  • Supporting lower complexity, higher volume workflows and internal inbox management.
  • Identifying high-risk factors such as sanctions and coordinating with the Risk Team for review.
  • Understanding Engagement Terms policies and liaising with the Client Team as necessary.
  • Assisting with internal projects and other duties to meet role requirements.
  • Supporting Senior Conflicts Analysts, Managers, and the Conflicts Investigation Team as required.

Candidate Overview

We are looking for candidates who ideally hold the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree level, preferably in law, or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant professional qualification (desirable, not required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Conflicts analysis experience or equivalent, ideally in a law firm or professional environment.
  • Knowledge of Intapp Open or similar systems.
  • Ability to analyse conflict results and understand low/medium/high-risk issues.
  • Understanding of the SRA Standards and Regulations when dealing with conflicts of interest.

What can we offer you?

  • Agile working (the opportunity to work from home, subject to commitments).
  • Carers’ leave (up to five paid days).
  • 25 days’ annual leave entitlement with the option to purchase or roll over 5 days.
  • Contributory pension of up to 5%.
  • Private healthcare policy.
  • Death in service cover (4 x base salary).
  • Eligibility for interest-free season ticket loan, gym membership loan, and/or rental deposit loan.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
