Here at Pinsent Masons, we bring together the best people to get the job done. We’re naturally curious, constantly learning, listening, and growing. We’ll truly value your ideas. You’ll be joining an award‑winning, hardworking and commercially minded team, where you’ll have the opportunity to work with leading experts and form meaningful relationships, while making a difference. You’ll get the opportunity to be involved in varied and challenging work, working in an open and supportive environment to deliver outstanding results. Our people are our success, and we work as one team.

We are recruiting a Senior Business Development Executive to provide targeted and considered marketing and business development (BD) support for one of the firm’s key sector groups. This role carries a high degree of autonomy and involves operating with partner‑level stakeholders – it is very much a ‘trusted advisor’ role and the partners look to this team for ideas, strategic input, a dynamic approach, and informed views, as well as effective multi‑channel BD support for collaboration with sector colleagues. This role can be based out of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham or London, and we have a standard working week of 35 hours a week, with a hybrid working model of 3 days in the office, 2 from home. As an inclusive employer, we are willing to consider any flexible working requests.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Drive the firm’s profile, support client relationship growth, and contribute to the implementation of strategic business plans through a number of core deliverables.
  • Develop strong relationships with senior stakeholders and build relationships as a trusted advisor, based on a thorough understanding of the sectors and services in which we operate.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen existing client relationships and promote cross‑selling across the firm’s service lines.
  • Contribute to client targeting, including research, relationship mapping, opportunity tracking and client reporting.
  • Focus on top clients through target setting and strategic action plans.
  • Work alongside the Events Manager to organise and deliver high‑profile seminars, webinars, roundtables, and brand‑enhancing networking events.
  • Lead and support the rollout of marketing campaigns, utilising a broad mix of channels including traditional, events, PR, digital content and thought leadership aligned with client needs and market trends.
  • Prepare compelling and tailored pitches, proposals and other marketing materials for new business opportunities and client meetings, managing the process from initial draft through to final delivery.
  • Manage relationships with key industry contacts and external membership bodies.
  • Utilise market and client insights to keep up to date with current and emerging issues impacting the industry.
  • Coordinate submissions for legal directories and awards for assigned practice areas.

Candidate Overview:

  • Proven experience at a Senior Marketing and BD level, or exceptional quality at an exec level, ideally within the legal industry or similar partnership environments.
  • Able to lead on content creation for several outputs, including capability documents, client brochures, pitches, thought leadership campaigns and various social media channels.
  • Experienced in Events / conference management and attendance.
  • Evidence of working as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders such as Partners – giving advice and guidance and being able to challenge where necessary.
  • Experience in the management of sector‑specific trade memberships and award submissions.
  • Comfortable working across various ‘levels’ of work, from strategic to administrative.
  • Able to take genuine ownership of this role with minimal supervision – managing a complex and varied workload, keeping up to date with news and trends, and being an early adopter of new technology (for example Copilot for research and document creation).

What happens next?

Once your application has been submitted and reviewed, our Recruitment team will share the outcome with you by email. We typically hold two interview stages per vacancy, providing the opportunity to meet two members of the hiring team at each stage. The first stage is typically conducted virtually and the second stage typically in person at the office in which the role would be based. However, we strive to remain flexible depending on the requirements of the role or the candidate.

Our strength lies in our differences. We are a Disability Confident and top Stonewall employer, a Valuable 500 member, a signatory of the Race at Work Charter and a proud partner of Neurodiversity in Law. We encourage and value different ideas and styles of thinking. It’s with different perspectives that we’ll find solutions to our clients’ most complex challenges.
