A vacancy has arisen in the small sub‑team of the firm’s Tax & Partner Financial Affairs function which deals primarily with the end‑to‑end process of partners’ personal tax compliance and associated issues. We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Tax Accountant to support the Head of UK Tax in delivering accurate and timely UK personal tax compliance for the firm’s partners and former partners. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative, detail‑focused team where your expertise in UK personal taxation will have a direct impact on the smooth running of critical financial processes.
About the Role
In this role, you will play a key part in managing the annual personal tax compliance cycle, supporting both the wider partner population and a delegated portfolio of individuals. Your responsibilities will include preparing tax returns, computing liabilities, maintaining control schedules, supporting tax reserve processes, and liaising with partners and third‑party advisers. You’ll also assist with the preparation of the firm’s business tax computations and contribute to ongoing improvements within the tax function. This is an ideal role for someone with strong tax compliance experience, excellent attention to detail, and a solution‑driven mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Personal Tax Compliance
- Support delivery of the recurring annual personal tax timetable.
- Maintain control schedules and ensure completeness of the partner population requiring tax returns.
- Register partners for National Insurance and ITSA and facilitate HMRC agent authorisations.
- Prepare aide memoires for partners at the start of each tax year.
- Prepare ITSA returns (including amendments to estimated prior‑year returns) and calculate tax liabilities or refunds.
- Prepare banking instructions and schedules for HMRC payments and partner tax reserve releases.
- Assist with building and maintaining tax reserves.
- Liaise professionally with partners, former partners, and third‑party advisers.
- File tax returns and provide partners with submission reports.
- Data & Analysis
- Prepare and maintain spreadsheets relating to partner population, tax reserves, return progress, pension contributions, tax payments and other key data.
- Analyse income and expenditure to support business tax computations.
- Technical & Regulatory Awareness
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant UK tax rules, including devolved tax rates (e.g. Scottish or Welsh income tax).
- Ensure accurate application of adjustments, deductions, and credits.
- Other Duties
- Provide ad hoc cover for the Partnership Tax Accountant role.
- Offer additional support to the Head of UK Tax and Head of Tax & Partner Financial Affairs when required.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
- Desirable
- Formal accountancy or tax qualification (or equivalent experience).
- Experience preparing UK income tax returns.
- Knowledge of CCH tax software or similar tools.
- Essential
- Strong understanding of UK personal taxation.
- High level of IT literacy and confidence working with data.
- Ability to balance detailed work with broader strategic awareness.
