Overview
As Senior Quantity Surveyor in the Rail division, you will drive commercial performance on Waterloo/Wessex rail projects. You will lead a team to deliver on time and within budget while managing procurement, cash flow, and contract compliance. You’ll present proposals to managers and clients and guide risk reviews, disputes, and commercial strategy. This permanent role offers hands-on leadership in a high-profile rail environment with opportunities to mentor staff and influence project outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Set profitability targets with the team and develop procurement strategy
- Procurement, negotiation, and administration of subcontracts per strategy
- Secure favorable payments from client and manage cash flow in line with contract
- Inform client of financial/commercial expectations and ensure alignment
- Ensure insurances, bonds and guarantees are in place and released timely
- Produce CVCs, cashflow, end-day forecasts aligned with targets
- Monitor progress against programme (including subcontractors)
- Prepare and agree internal/external valuations/final accounts for entitlement
- Participate in risk reviews and problem solving
- Provide guidance on contractual obligations and commercial considerations
- Contribute to dispute resolution with commercial impact
- Train, mentor and develop other staff
- Deliver all duties with attention to quality and efficiency
Key requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering
- Progressed from an engineering background
- Experience in Rail sectors
- Chartered or working towards Chartership
- Experience managing a team of on-site staff (engineers, foreman, etc)
