Overview

In this role you lead on large civil rail projects across the South West, with initial travel between London and Swindon and long-term base in Wiltshire. You drive safety, quality and environmental standards, shaping site execution and plans. You collaborate with engineers, surveys and safety teams to ensure projects meet the highest standards and are delivered on time and within budget. The role offers impact through promoting a Zero Harm culture and delivering robust construction phase plans and site controls. You will engage with senior stakeholders to keep projects progressing and aligned with the client and company goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead health, safety and environmental practices in alignment with SHQE department
  • Create and maintain Construction Phase Plans, Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Task Briefings
  • Ensure safe workplaces with adequate welfare facilities and effective supervision
  • Develop and regularly update project-specific execution plans and ensure understanding across project personnel
  • Review and update safe systems of work, recording changes in Construction Phase Plans
  • Verify team members have necessary training and experience for their duties
  • Maintain professional image and lead by example in safety, quality and environment
  • Coordinate with engineers, QS, safety officers and clerks of works to share clear information
  • Keep daily diaries and allocation sheets up to date
  • Assist engineers with setting out information and contribute to method statements
  • Attend and contribute to weekly site meetings on safety, progress, costs and programme
  • Maintain high quality standards and keep the client informed of potential issues and opportunities
  • Foster strong procurement relationships to secure compliant and advantageous terms
  • Promote Murphy Culture Development Culture and support Zero Harm initiatives

Key requirements

  • Proven experience on large civil engineering projects within the rail sector
  • Ability to produce, implement and manage safe systems of work for construction procedures
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with senior management and clients
  • Understanding of commercial aspects of large-scale construction projects
  • Ability to discuss engineering issues across different levels and disciplines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of day-to-day site setup and operations
  • Knowledge of company safety and environmental policies (desirable)
