Overview
In this role you support a successful civil engineering team delivering high-profile South West projects. You will uphold health, safety, and environmental standards through the SHQE function and guide on-site practices. Youβll supervise engineers, advise on setting out methods, and ensure accurate drawings and information flow to keep programmes on track. Your work directly influences safe site execution, quality, and timely project delivery in collaboration with clients, designers, and the supply chain. Responsibilities
- Promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters with the SHQE team
- Supervise assistant and site engineers
- Assist with temporary works design schemes
- Identify, coach and develop key staff
- Monitor work for unsafe conditions and non-compliance with company policies
- Maintain good relations with client/designer/team and supply chain
- Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques
- Ensure drawings and specs contain sufficient information for construction
- Request missing information to avoid programme delays
- Communicate with foremen and supervisors for clarity of information
- Oversee selection of materials and plant
- Prepare risk assessments and method statements
- Maintain a full daily site diary with changes and attendance
- Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as per PMP/Specification
Key requirements
- Proven experience on large civil engineering projects
- Ability to create, implement and manage safe systems of work
- Strong communication and presentation skills with senior management and clients
- Understanding of commercial issues on large-scale projects
- Ability to discuss engineering issues across disciplines
- Knowledge of current civil engineering, health & safety and environmental legislation
- PTS (Personal Track Safety) competence
- Experience/training with surveying/CAD techniques (desirable)
