Pinnacle Recruitment is seeking an experienced Design Manager on behalf of one of the UK's leading building contractors. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Design Manager in Greater London to take on a critical role within a high-performing team delivering complex, high-value construction projects.
About the Role
As Design Manager, you will play a key part in the overall success of major construction projects across Greater London, managing both internal and external design consultant teams and overseeing all aspects of the design process from concept through to construction issue. This is a challenging and highly rewarding role for an experienced design professional with strong commercial, contractual and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full design process using commercial, contractual, programme and technical expertise
- Prepare, manage, monitor and report on the Design Information Release Schedule, Design Programme and Design Responsibility Matrix
- Engage with and manage external consultant and sub-contractor design teams
- Lead and chair project design team meetings and design coordination workshops
- Review and assist in tender opportunities and value engineering exercises
- Develop and implement drawing and document control systems and protocols
- Assess and review project design information for content, quality, health & safety, CDM and compliance with Employer's Requirements
- Assist the Project Manager and Project QS in reviewing scope of variation and change control requests
- Implement and manage the site RFI process and register
- Liaise with clients, contractors, subcontractors, statutory authorities and stakeholders to build key project relationships
- Ensure design information is of the right quality and keeps pace with project timescales
- Strive to eliminate health & safety risks in design and financial risks during construction
- Assist in on-site SHEQ, site health & safety plans, traffic management plans and fire plans
- Support BIM standards development and implementation on projects where required
- Undertake quality inspections and report on site quality issues
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Relevant design or construction-related qualification
- Proven construction industry experience in a Design Manager role
- Strong leadership skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication skills
- Good understanding of construction processes and buildability
Desirable
- Experience with the full MS Office suite
- Document control experience
- Experience of Viewpoint or equivalent platform
- Knowledge of BIM processes, procedures and software
