An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Works Manager to join a growing specialist contractor operating within the construction, infrastructure and utilities sectors.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in pump hire, dewatering or temporary water management who is looking to take ownership of a busy pump division.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the pump depot, supporting projects across the UK and providing technical expertise for temporary pumping and water management solutions.

Alongside operational responsibilities, you will play an important role in supporting business development, pricing works and ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient and commercially successful pumping solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operation of the pump hire depot, ensuring equipment availability, maintenance and efficient mobilisation.
  • Provide technical expertise for temporary pumping, dewatering, wastewater transfer, bypass pumping and surface water management solutions.
  • Develop pumping strategies and provide technical support during tender, pre-construction and early contractor involvement (ECI) stages.
  • Price and estimate pumping equipment, installation and associated project costs.
  • Support operational site teams with the installation, commissioning, optimisation and removal of pumping systems.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and resolve pumping or flow issues on live construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to ensure the correct equipment is available and delivered on time.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients to support the continued growth of the pump division.
  • Promote the highest standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and quality across all operations.
  • Keep up to date with new pumping technologies and industry best practice to ensure innovative and cost-effective solutions are delivered.

Requirements

  • Proven experience within pump hire, dewatering, temporary water management or water treatment.
  • Strong knowledge of submersible, surface and wastewater pumping systems.
  • Experience estimating and pricing pumping equipment and installation works.
  • Background within construction, utilities, demolition, remediation or infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience managing operational teams and supporting multiple live projects.
  • Strong commercial awareness with excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel to operational sites when required.

Desirable

  • Experience working on utility or infrastructure frameworks.
  • Knowledge of temporary works and pumping design.
  • Technical qualification such as NVQ, CITB or equivalent.
  • Commercial management or project delivery experience.
