Overview

In this role you will drive commercial performance on a major live project inside a Birmingham hospital, ensuring value, cost control and risk management while the facility remains operational. You’ll collaborate with operations, design and commercial teams to protect margin and keep the programme on track. The work blends building and MEP packages in a live environment, demanding proactive stakeholder engagement and safe delivery. Responsibilities

  • Own commercial matters for your package area in line with governance and digital systems
  • Measure and value works; produce cost reconciliations and value reports
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities, schedules of rates and first-principles estimates
  • Track progress against programmes and align commercial activity with milestones
  • Administer subcontract accounts from valuation to final account
  • Support procurement with tender packages and subcontract analysis
  • Manage client and stakeholder relationships within your area
  • Identify and manage commercial risk and opportunity (change, delay, disruption)
  • Minimise disruption to hospital operations while controlling cost, value and quality on MEP and building packages

Key requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent commercial experience in construction, building services or MEP
  • Experience as a QS on major projects, preferably in live/operational environments
  • Strong delivery experience in cost control, value management, subcontract administration and procurement
  • Knowledge of standard forms of contract, commercial reporting, change control and delay/disruption
  • Ability to build relationships with clients, subcontractors and project teams in a high-profile setting
  • Proficiency with digital commercial systems and cost/value data analysis
  • Understanding of delivering safely in live environments, with operational constraints and stakeholder management
  • CSCS card or equivalent
  • Chartered status (MRICS, MCIOB or MCInstCES) or working towards it
