Health & Safety Advisor
Location: Milton Keynes | Salary: DOE | Region: Milton Keynes
An opportunity has arisen to join a Tier 1 Main contractor on the East West Rail (EWR) Phase 2 programme. The Alliance aims to deliver safe, high-performance rail infrastructure across the UK, working with Network Rail, London Underground, and rail operators.
The East West Rail Alliance is a “pure” alliance consisting of three Non-Owner Participants (NOPs); Network Rail. East West Rail (EWR) phase 2 programme is in excess of one billion pounds and one of the most prestigious projects in the UK Infrastructure pipeline. It will provide a strategic route linking key centres of economic activity between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury and Bedford.
Responsibilities
- Uphold Alliance “Safety in Every Choice” leadership principles and provide competent support, guidance and compliance monitoring for health & safety management in design and construction delivery.
- Develop and maintain health and safety processes to support project scheme design and construction programme delivery.
- Engage with Alliance staff, subcontractors and third parties on health and safety matters.
- Deliver project inductions and support the delivery of H&S training (Safety in Every Choice) to staff and subcontractors where applicable.
- Undertake incident investigations, capture lessons learned and implement changes to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and deliver health and safety improvement projects to enhance performance.
- Collate and report H&S KPI data; monitor compliance against the Alliance IMS through audits, inspections and KSB assessments.
- Represent the Health & Safety Manager at meetings as required; coordinate office/site health and safety management arrangements.
- Ensure timely communication of controlled documents, alerts and reports; champion close call reporting within allocated teams.
- Support development and delivery of H&S training, Stand Down events and briefings.
Requirements / Experience
- Experience in developing and implementing health and safety management arrangements on large-scale multi-disciplinary rail projects.
- Collaborate with delivery teams to identify practical measures to improve safety performance.
Skills & Knowledge
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of general health & safety legislation and railway-specific legislation and standards (Railway Group Standards, Network Rail Company Standards)
- Behavioural Change training; collaborative behaviours
- Computer literacy with good understanding of H&S reporting systems
- Strong attention to detail; excellent presentation and communication skills
- Qualified Auditor
