My client has won several major projects and is one of the major framework suppliers for Signalling works in the Northern region. We are recruiting for a Head of Design (Signalling) to join an extensive team and work on delivering some of the most challenging and interesting projects within the UK rail market. This role is a key member of the senior leadership design team, supporting the organization in the technical delivery of outline and detailed signalling design to all relevant standards and to time and budget.

The successful candidate will have experience at senior manager level, be commercially aware and capable of providing planning, leadership and technical expertise within the Rail Signalling environment.

Leadership
  • Experienced in planning, delivery and management of signalling design projects.
  • Plan, manage and resource recruitment to ensure project delivery.
  • Regularly monitor design team requirements at all levels to provide best possible coaching, mentoring and development at all levels, from designers to management.
  • Lead business improvement within the design function.
  • Regularly engage with the design teams to ensure programme delivery and client requirements are understood and adhered to.
  • Regularly update clients and internal senior leadership with updates regarding signalling frameworks and other projects progress and any issues that arise.
  • Act as Bid and Technical Director when opportunities are identified.
  • Review bids and tenders ensuring cost effective solutions are offered that take account of risk and resource requirements.
Delivery
  • Drive culture within design ensuring highest quality of standards in the technical delivery of works produced.
  • Lead design team to ensure works are on time and within budget.
  • Ensure design team targets are adhered to.
  • Commercial focus across the design group is a necessity.
  • Produce and monitor delivery plans to ensure all resource requirements for specific projects are outlined and monitored and met for current and future requirements.
  • Liaise with clients to ensure potential future works are bid for.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Chartered or Incorporated Electrical Engineer preferred.
  • Institute of Signalling Railway Engineers (IRSE) member.
  • Track record of delivering design across multiple projects.
  • Detailed knowledge of signalling design processes.
