A leading, national main contractor that delivers multi-million pound public and commercial projects has a great opportunity for a Design Manager to join them on a permanent basis, based from their offices in Hertfordshire. The company delivers projects in a number of sectors including education, leisure, health, retail, hotels, offices, as well as national frameworks for Government and Local Authorities. They have been established for many years and are recognised as one of the most reputable main contractors in the industry.
The Design Manager will be responsible for co-ordinating and integrating the activities of external design consultants, assisting on pre-construction activities and tender opportunities, and ultimately controlling and interrogating the activities of external design consultants.
Overview of Responsibilities:- Manage the design process during the tender stage
- Attend pre-qualification interviews and presentations as required
- Agree the tender information required schedule with the bid team
- Chair design development meetings during the tender process
- Interrogation of enquiry documents
- Production of a Contractor’s Proposal document in liaison with other internal departments
- Manage design process via external consultants
- Drive innovative and cost effective solutions into the design
- Progress design issues within a strict timescale & ensure designers meet information delivery dates
- Review Sub-contractor design proposals
- Verify & control status of consultants and subcontractors drawings and specifications & maintain registers
- Ensure the consultant scope of services, responsibilities and fees are agreed
- Facilitate the completion of a project risk register
- Attend tender launch / tender adjudication and launch meetings as required
- Holds the relevant qualifications (Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline)
- Experience working for a reputable Main Contractor
- Commercial awareness
- Have an understanding of different Client procurement routes
- Experience of site/contract procedures
- Ability to organise, plan, programme and manage workloads
- Understanding of Building Regulations and Planning Permission procedures
- Able to commute to Hertfordshire (near Stevenage) on a daily basis
