A main regional civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Senior General Foreman to join their team on a civil engineering bridge replacement project based in Eastbourne. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven, hands-on leader to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of site operations on a high-profile scheme.
The Role
As Senior General Foreman, you'll take the lead on-site, coordinating labour, plant, and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, and to the required quality standards. You'll act as the key link between the site management team and the workforce, driving productivity while upholding rigorous health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily site operations, managing direct labour and subcontract gangs across civil engineering works
- Plan and coordinate resources, plant, and materials to meet programme requirements
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards on site
- Liaise closely with the Site Manager/Site Agent, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve day-to-day issues
- Monitor quality of workmanship against specification and drawings
- Supervise and mentor junior foremen and gangers
- Contribute to short-term programming and progress reporting
About You
- Proven track record as a General Foreman or Senior General Foreman within civil engineering
- Strong background in groundworks, drainage, highways, or structures (as relevant)
- Valid CSCS card (Black/Gold preferred) and SMSTS certification
- First Aid at Work certificate
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
- Sound working knowledge of health & safety legislation and best practice
- Full UK driving licence
