A Tier 1 Contractor is currently seeking a Commercial Manager with 10+ years UK main contractor Rail experience to work on a major rail infrastructure project in London. This opportunity offers the chance to work with one of the UK's top civil engineering contractors on a multi-million pound project as well as the chance to progress up the commercial management chain of command.
Applicants should have strong leadership skills and a bias towards fully co-operative team working, together with a successful track record, preferably with a significant period at Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager level within a regional civil engineering business. You should also be able to demonstrate a personal ability to take ownership of the financial outcome of projects and develop and lead successful commercial strategies.
Further qualities would include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Capable of handling all the Commercial and Contractual aspects of a single contract (or group of contracts) up to a high value turnover
- Can profitably run the commercial aspects of part of the business
- Monitoring and forecasting the financial results
- Ensuring that the value of change is agreed in a timely manner
- Maximising contract margins
- Maximising their cash position
- Managing risk and opportunity
- Managing and motivating a team of quantity surveyors
- Manage all existing contract activities effectively, ensuring the swift and effective resolution of issues
- Lead negotiations with customers on commercial and contractual matters, achieving timely agreement in a non-adversarial manner
- Supervise the preparation of final accounts and lead negotiations on agreement
- Carry out commercial appraisals on tender opportunities and input to tender strategies
- Develop, maintain and manage relationships in assigned major existing customers to ensure the effective management of business agreements and contracts from the cradle to the grave
- Provide support to the negotiation and agreement of subcontract arrangements through to complex and strategic subcontract arrangements to minimise risk and maximise the advantage to the business
- Identify risks in relation to assigned major contracts/business arrangements
- Proposing responses in line with policies in order to maximise business return
- Lead, develop and motivate commercial staff, ensuring they are fully aware of and capable of meeting their accountabilities
- Contribute to developing and maintaining commercial procedures and policies, and their implementation to support improved business effectiveness
Requirements:
- Commercial experience on civil engineering projects with experience at a senior level
- Commercially astute with excellent negotiating skills
- Team player with good communication skills and an approachable yet assertive style
- Extensive knowledge of NEC and ICE forms of contract
- Minimum qualification HND/HNC, ideally Degree qualified with professional qualification (RICS/ICES)
- Computer Literate
