Commercial Manager – Rail

We are currently looking for a Commercial Manager for one of our major clients who operate across the UK within the Civil Rail sector. The Project Commercial Manager will be responsible for managing a small team on all commercial aspects of the project, including CVRs, forecasting, procurement, management of the supply chain, maximizing cash‑flow and client liaison.

The Project Commercial Manager will report to the Project Director and Commercial Director for Rail.

Key aspects of your role

  • Have full understanding of the contract conditions and be responsible for ensuring that all team members understand the relevant part of the contract applicable to the work they are responsible for.
  • Ensure the applications for payment are made to the agreed timescales and are agreed with the client.
  • Set out the commercial strategy for the project and ensure that the commercial personnel are competent and receive the right training.
  • Ensure that reporting procedures are complied with for cost and value monitoring.
  • Work with the project teams and be involved in all major decisions which would affect the outcome of the project.
  • Work with the project teams to ensure financial controls are in place to monitor costs and value of work undertaken.
  • Maintain and enhance the relationship with the client and work with the team to deliver the project in a cost‑effective manner for all parties.

What we are looking for

  • Commercial Management experience on large projects for a first‑tier contractor.
  • Experience of claims production and negotiation.
  • Experience using major forms of contract (NEC, ICE, NR9/12 etc).
  • A good understanding of construction law.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time‑management skills.

Salary: £65,000 – £75,000
