I have a great opportunity for an Assistant / Quantity Surveyor to join a high end residential building contractor on a permanent basis, based out of Surrey / Berkshire.
The company initially carry out small extensions and alterations within the high end residential sector to build one off bespoke houses, to now building small – medium sized developments around the Southern Home Counties.
Regardless of the project, the aim remains the same; to exceed their clients’ high expectations. Client focus and an uncompromising attitude to quality of finish are the driving forces behind the success of their business.
The successful Assistant / Quantity Surveyor will be working on new build, and will be involved in procurement, sub-contracts, contract accounting and valuations, working alongside the Commercial Director and Managing Director to procure the various items on the project and keep within budget.
Ultimately the Assistant / Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for maximising the gross margin on the company’s building contracts by working with the Commercial Manager and Contracts Manager, accurately assessing costs during delivery of the contract and in justifying to and claiming from clients all contractual payments due to the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet the contract programme in conjunction with the Critical Path Schedule to prepare and despatch tender packages to sub-contractors
- Maintain all necessary records
- Collate sub-contractor tenders, analyse and after which, in consultation with the Contracts Manager, award sub-contracts
- Check and approve sub-contractors’ claims for payments
- Liaise with sub-contractors to resolve queries
- Assess and cost variations to contract on a regular basis and update the Variations Account with monthly valuations
- Formulate contractual claims for submission
- Submit and agree final accounts
- Prepare monthly valuations and submit for payment under the terms of the contract
- Prepare and submit monthly cost/value reconciliations
- Manage the procurement and buying gains reporting ensuring regular updating as the project progresses and concludes at final account
Experience
- Ideally Degree qualified or other relative qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience working for a reputable main contractor or developer
- Experience working on new build residential developments
- High end residential refurbishment experience is advantageous
- Able to work on multiple projects concurrently
- Fully conversant with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word & Excel mainly)
- Working knowledge of programming and/or project management software
- Current driving license
- Able to commute to and work in Surrey
