The Asset Protection Engineer is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that all the commitments with the third parties from the Legal Agreements listed in the Commitment register are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Developing, planning, coordinating the design and implementation of Building Structural Mitigation Measures recommended in the Stage 3 Building Damage Assessments.
  • Carrying out inspections necessary for managing the effects of the works on Grade I/II listed buildings within the zone of influence of the tunnels and shafts.

The role will include liaising with LU, Designers, Tier 2 Contractors and Third Parties to ensure the design and works are implemented as appropriate and sufficient for the requirements in a timely manner.

Accountabilities / Key Responsibilities

  • Owner of the Commitments Register, i.e. coordinate with the rest of the team to ensure all the deliverables are in place in a timely manner.
  • Co-ordinate with Designers and construction team to ensure successful completion of the building Structural Mitigation Measures design is sufficient to assure LU and key Stakeholders.
  • Liaise with the consents team to provide information relating to the design and implementation of the Structural Mitigation Measures.
  • Liaise with the consents team to plan Inspections.
  • Maintain and co-ordinate design documentation, safety, programme, cost, environmental and community risks involved with Structural Mitigation Measures and Inspection works.
  • Liaise with I&M team to ensure consistent approach with Structural Mitigation Measures.
  • Ensure Structural Mitigation Measures input into monitoring documentation and review process.
  • Undertake site inspections during implementation to ensure works are executed as per the design.
  • Raise non-conformances taking immediate corrective action whenever possible.
  • Review Method Statements and procedures for site based activities.
  • Co-ordinate logistics for all site works including plant, materials and equipment required to undertake the works.
  • Maintain good community and Third Party relations.
  • Assist with preparation and procurement of sub-contractors as required for Structural Mitigation Measures, Inspections and any other works that may arise relating to building mitigation.
  • Co-ordinate and inspect buildings during the zone of influence of tunnelling and excavation activities and report to review meetings.
  • Ensure all relevant information from Stage 3 Damage Assessments, Defect Surveys, Structural Mitigation Measures design and Inspection findings are correlated and recorded for each building.
  • Co-ordinate all close out works for decommissioning of the Structural Mitigation Measures including preparing/reviewing documentation, planning, liaising with Designers, Subcontractors, LU and Stakeholders.
  • Work with Commercial and Change teams to agree budgets for planned works.
  • Assist Change team with identification and recovery of additional entitlements.
  • Ensure works are completed within budget and to programme.
  • Work with Commercial and Cost teams to ensure cost forecasts are realistic and periodically updated.

Experience, Knowledge, Qualifications & Training

Mandatory

  • The role will require the post holder to have excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal and to be able to report at all levels.
  • The post holder will be educated to degree or higher level in a surveying, engineering, mining or construction discipline.
  • An HNC or HND (or equivalent) or a fully recorded vocational training to an equivalent level (Mining Qualifications Board; Mine Surveyors Certificate or similar) may be acceptable where a significant level of experience in a technical engineering role can be demonstrated.
  • Experience in a similar role within the construction or mining industries.
  • A good working knowledge of relevant safety legislation.
  • Appropriate CSCS card type and level.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in rail environment.
  • Previous experience in LU environment.
  • Membership of an appropriate Professional body.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS training.
