Pinnacle Group is looking for an experienced School Caretaker / Superintendent to ensure our buildings and facilities are well-maintained and secure. You will be joining our Total Facilities Team based at a Horsforth Primary School, Leeds, LS18.

Our Total Facilities Management team delivers integrated asset management and maintenance services across education, leisure, corporate, health and residential sectors. We focus on keeping facilities running smoothly, safely, and efficiently – helping our clients create spaces that work for everyone.

The overall aim of the role is to ensure that the internal and external school facilities are available, fully functional, H&S compliant and aesthetically pleasing.

This is a Permanent Role of 37½ hours per week – Monday to Friday -7am until 3pm,with the addition of gaining overtime available to cover out-of-hours activities, holidays and sickness cover.

Main Daily Activities will include

  • Ensure the security and integrity of the school buildings and grounds through locking and unlocking, patrols and monitoring third-party lettings.
  • Conduct initial investigations into reactive requests relating to deficiencies, carrying out repairs and reporting/escalating to the Line Manager.
  • Carry out day-to-day duties according to the daily schedule, i.e. litter picking, sweeping, spot cleaning toilets and refreshing hand towels and toilet paper.
  • Carry out defined Planned Preventive Maintenance responsibilities in accordance with the school\’s schedule and the individual\’s skill base.
  • Liaise with the Facilities Assistant daily to ensure that events/tasks are managed in an efficient and professional manner.

Reactive Duties will include

  • Carry out initial investigations into reactive requests made during the day and make temporary or permanent repairs or otherwise notify the helpdesk of the need to call in a service provider, in accordance with prescribed procedures and timescales.
  • Respond to emergencies such as floods, bodily fluids and effecting temporary or permanent rectification in accordance with prescribed procedures and timescales.
  • Respond to requests for the collection of parcels, movement of furniture, and rearrangement of rooms, etc., in accordance with prescribed procedures and timescales.
  • Be observant for H&S issues and ensure that they are rectified or made safe and reported to management.

General Duties will include

  • Where appropriate, provide access, escort, liaise with and assist contractors on site.
  • Carry out minor repairs and decoration works
  • Participate in cleaning/deep cleaning activities as and when required
  • Being proactive by noticing deficiencies in the facilities and either rectifying them if within capabilities or bringing the defect to the attention of management
  • Any other duties as assigned by management that relate to maintaining the facilities in a clean, functional and aesthetically pleasing state
  • Any other duties that the individual is suitably skilled or qualified to undertake
  • Be flexible in shift patterns to cover colleagues\’ absences due to sickness and annual leave
  • Overall line management of the Facilities Assistant and the on-site cleaning team.
  • Fault reporting and updating the helpdesk promptly

Out of Hours will include

  • Be available for lettings of the premises outside of normal hours
  • Participate in providing an out-of-hours emergency call-out service in line with management instructions
  • Maintain communication in the event of any incidents to ensure the availability of school facilities

Skills Required

  • Previous School Superintendent experience is desirable
  • A range of general handyman skills, such as minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical
  • Good communication skills in relation to managing relations with the school, external contractors and providers and reporting issues to the Line Manager.
  • Ability to liaise with and assist external service providers
  • Some IT knowledge is preferable to enable communication via email, completion of statutory documentation spreadsheets, and the use of smartphones/Tablets.
