This is a senior finance leadership role responsible for the quality, accuracy and timeliness of management accounting and financial reporting across the Group. Leading a team of 6-8 finance professionals, including a mix of Finance Business Partners and Management Accountants, you will ensure a robust, well-controlled month-end close process and the production of high-calibre monthly reporting that gives the Senior Leadership Team the financial insight it needs to drive business decision-making.

Our Finance Team is part of our Central Services, providing expert support to all areas of the business. They help ensure our operations run efficiently, embrace best practice and stay financially strong – enabling our teams to deliver on our mission to Transform Communities and Change Lives.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with proven experience leading, managing and developing a finance team, ideally within a complex, multi-site or multi-entity environment. Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience of management accounts preparation, month-end close and balance sheet control in a high-volume, multi-entity environment. Experience within housing, facilities management, outsourcing, contract services or a similar sector, together with knowledge of contract commercial models, mobilisations and margin management, would be advantageous.

This is a 18-month fixed-term hybrid contract requiring attendance at our Holborn office two-three days per week, with the remaining days working remotely. The role is paying £80,000-£85,000 depending on experience with a performance related bonus of up to 10%.

Key responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership and Development: Line manage, coach and develop a team of 6-8 (Senior Finance Business Partners and Management Accountants), setting clear objectives, providing regular feedback, and supporting career progression.
  • Monthly Management Accounts and Reporting: Own the Group month-end close timetable and process, ensuring all financial close activities are completed accurately and on time across all divisions and subsidiaries.
  • Senior Leadership Reporting: Prepare and present consolidated monthly reporting packs, key performance indicators and variance analysis to the Senior Leadership Team and divisional Boards.
  • Financial Control and Balance Sheet Integrity: Maintain a strong control environment across the Group, with oversight of balance sheet reconciliations, reserving, and compliance with accounting standards and Group finance policies.
  • Business Partnering: Work closely with Divisional Operations Directors, Senior Finance Business Partners and profit centre managers.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the management accounts contribution to the annual budget process and periodic forecasts.
  • Process Improvement and Systems: Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, systems and reporting tools across the Group.
  • Audit and Compliance: Support the annual statutory audit process, including audit fieldwork and the resolution of audit queries.
  • Cash Flow Reporting: Oversee Group cash flow reporting and monitoring.
  • Ad Hoc Analysis and Trouble-shooting: Perform and oversee reactive, investigative analysis on key financial and operational issues as required.

Key Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), with a minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience at a senior finance level.
  • Proven experience leading, managing and developing a finance team.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience of management accounts preparation.
  • A track record of producing high-calibre, timely and accurate monthly reporting.
  • Excellent business partnering skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Advanced IT skills, including strong Excel capability.
