Are you an HR professional ready to step into a more commercial, client-facing advisory role? Our client is looking for a confident and proactive HR Advisor to join their HR advisory team on a 12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. This is not a traditional in-house HR role. You’ll manage your own portfolio of SME and mid-market clients, providing practical, commercially focused HR advice across a wide range of sectors, with the support of experienced consultants around you.

If you enjoy variety, problem-solving and building trusted client relationships, this could be the ideal next step in your HR career.

Role Overview:
  • Gain genuine client-facing HR advisory experience
  • Exposure to complex employee relations and employment law matters
  • Opportunity to develop consultancy style HR skills
  • Supportive, ambitious and fast-paced team environment
  • Real responsibility and ownership from day one
  • Meaningful role despite FTC (not “just maternity cover)
  • Hybrid working with flexibility and autonomy

The Role: As an HR Advisor, you’ll work closely with a portfolio of clients, supporting them with day-to-day HR and employment matters while helping ensure their documentation, processes and people practices remain compliant and commercially effective. You’ll also support HR training initiatives, events and client engagement activity, making this a varied and highly visible role. No two days are the same! One day you could be advising on an absence issue, the next reviewing contracts, attending a client meeting or supporting HR training delivery.

About YOU:

We’d love to hear from HR Advisors, HR Officers or HR Coordinators who are ready for more exposure, responsibility and client interaction.

Essential:
  • Previous experience within an HR environment
  • Good understanding of UK employment law fundamentals
  • Confident communication skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Full willingness to travel to client sites
  • Happy to commit to a 12-month fixed-term contract
Desirable:
  • CIPD Level 3 or above (or currently working towards it)
  • Experience drafting employment contracts and HR policies
  • Experience in an HR consultancy, advisory or outsourced HR environment
  • Exposure to HR training or event coordination
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and HR systems
Key Responsibilities:
  • HR Advisory & Client Management
  • Provide telephone and email-based HR advice to a portfolio of clients
  • Advise on a wide range of HR matters including:
    • Absence management
    • Disciplinary & grievance
    • Performance management
    • Redundancy
    • TUPE
    • Family-friendly policies
  • Build strong, trusted client relationships
  • Attend client meetings and site visits across the region
  • Documentation & Compliance
  • Draft and review employment contracts, handbooks, policies and HR letters
  • Ensure HR documentation reflects current employment legislation and best practice
  • Prepare documentation for client meetings and follow-up actions
  • Maintain accurate client records and systems
  • Training & Event Coordination
  • Support the coordination of HR training sessions and events
  • Manage bookings, logistics and communications
  • Assist with training delivery and client engagement activity
  • Commercial & Team Support
  • Support renewal activity and reporting
  • Contribute to HR blogs, updates and client communications
  • Collaborate with consultants and wider business teams
  • Build your confidence and capability towards a more senior HR Consultant pathway over time

This role would suit someone who:

  • Enjoys variety, pace and problem-solving
  • Wants to deepen their employment law knowledge
  • Is commercially minded and pragmatic
  • Enjoys building relationships with clients
  • Is confident working independently while still collaborating with a team
  • Wants to develop towards a future HR Consultant career path
Working Pattern:
  • Hybrid working model
  • Office base in Sheffield
