A highly regarded and supportive independent prep school in East Sussex is seeking a skilled Speech & Language Assistant to join their team from September. The school caters for children aged 2–13 and offers a nurturing, well-resourced environment with a strong focus on pastoral care, communication, and individual development. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a collaborative and forward-thinking school community where staff are valued and supported.
This is a long-term position supporting a young girl in Reception on a 1:1 basis. The pupil is currently awaiting an EHCP and requires focused support with speech, language, and communication. The role will involve delivering targeted interventions and adapting strategies to support her development.
Key Responsibilities- Provide tailored 1:1 speech and language support
- Use structured communication methods, including Makaton
- Support the pupil’s engagement in classroom activities
- Work closely with the class teacher and external professionals
- Monitor progress and adapt support strategies accordingly
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Strong knowledge and experience of Makaton – essential
- Experience supporting children with speech and language needs
- Background working within a school or early years setting
- Patient, nurturing, and proactive approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
- Experience supporting pupils awaiting or with EHCPs
