Teaching Assistant – Primary SEND School
Full-Time | 8:30am – 3:30pm | £93 per day | Temp to Perm
Pink Tile Education are working in partnership with a specialist primary SEND school in the Worthing area, who are seeking a caring, patient, and resilient Teaching Assistant to join their team on a long‑term basis, with the opportunity to move into a permanent role. This is a highly supportive and nurturing school environment, catering for children with a wide range of complex SEND needs. Pupils may present with autism, communication difficulties, physical disabilities, sensory needs, and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Many pupils are non‑verbal and use alternative communication methods including Makaton, symbols, and visual aids to support interaction and learning. Some pupils have limited mobility and may use wheelchairs or require additional physical support throughout the school day.
Personal care is an essential part of this role, and candidates must be comfortable and willing to support with toileting, feeding, and general intimate care where required. The school is looking for someone who is calm under pressure, able to build trusting relationships, and confident in supporting children with complex needs. Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to de‑escalate challenging situations using a calm and consistent approach are essential.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience working with children or young people with SEND (school or care background)
- Be patient, caring, and emotionally resilient
- Be confident supporting non‑verbal pupils and using communication tools such as Makaton or PECS (desirable)
- Be willing to support with personal care tasks
- Have strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills
- Be able to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
- Be proactive, adaptable, and supportive in a classroom environment
Experience in special schools, care settings, nurseries, residential care, or support work is highly desirable, but transferable skills and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs are also welcomed.
