We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and highly motivated Operational Behaviour Manager to join a secondary school in the Hastings area. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong behaviour management, leadership, and pastoral experience to play a key role in promoting a positive learning culture and supporting student achievement. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for overseeing the school’s behaviour systems, coordinating behaviour support provision, and leading a team of Behaviour Mentors to ensure students receive the support they need to engage successfully in education.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate behaviour support across the school.
- Manage and support a team of Behaviour Mentors and pastoral staff.
- Ensure behaviour policies and procedures are implemented consistently and effectively.
- Coordinate daily behaviour interventions and support strategies.
- Oversee student arrivals, departures, detentions, and internal behaviour systems.
- Monitor behaviour trends and implement targeted support plans.
- Work with students who may be at risk of disengagement, exclusion, or poor attendance.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and external agencies.
- Support staff with behaviour management strategies and best practice.
- Contribute to safeguarding, pastoral support, and student wellbeing initiatives.
- Analyse behaviour data and produce reports to support school improvement planning.
- Promote a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment across the school.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous experience within education, behaviour support, pastoral care, youth work, or a similar setting.
- Strong understanding of behaviour management and restorative approaches.
- Experience leading or supervising a team.
- Ability to build positive relationships with secondary-aged students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within a secondary school, SEMH setting, or Alternative Provision.
- Knowledge of attendance, behaviour, and inclusion strategies.
- Experience working with vulnerable learners and students with additional needs.
